About the Restaurant
Stampede Barbecue opened its permanent home in Mohnton in 2018 after five seasons as a roadside barbecue stand on Route 23. In 2022 we opened Detwiler Brewing inside the restaurant. It is the only wood-fired brewery in Pennsylvania, where we brew our own ales and wild-fermented cider.
A Restaurant Near Reading
The restaurant is on Morgantown Road in Mohnton, in southern Berks County. It is about 20 minutes from Reading and a short drive from Shillington, Wyomissing and Morgantown, so it is an easy trip for lunch or dinner from most of the Reading area.
What to Order
The full restaurant and bar menu includes smoked meats by the pound, plates, sandwiches, loaded favorites, salads and homemade sides and desserts. Wings are available on Wednesdays. See the restaurant and bar menu for everything we serve.
Prime Rib on Thursdays
Prime rib is a Thursday evening special at the restaurant, served from 4 PM to 8 PM at market price. The full barbecue menu is available at the same time. See the prime rib page for details.
Detwiler Brewing and the Bar
Ales and wild-fermented cider from Detwiler Brewing are poured at the bar during restaurant hours, including cask-conditioned ales from antique hand pumps. The tap list changes through the year. See the brewery page for more.
Live Music
We host live folk, bluegrass, gypsy jazz and square dances at the restaurant, usually on a Friday or Saturday evening, with no cover charge. See the events page for the current schedule.
