Stampede Barbecue is in Mohnton, in southern Berks County, about 50 minutes from Lancaster by car. It makes an easy lunch or dinner trip for anyone in Lancaster County who wants Texas-style barbecue and house-brewed beer.
A Lancaster County Connection
Stampede started close to Lancaster County. From 2013 to 2017 it ran as a seasonal roadside barbecue stand on Route 23 with views of Lancaster County farmland. In 2018 it moved into its permanent home on Morgantown Road in Mohnton, and in 2022 Detwiler Brewing opened inside the restaurant. Read our story for more.
Getting There
The restaurant is at 4372 Morgantown Road in Mohnton. The drive from Lancaster takes about 50 minutes without heavy traffic. Check a map app before you leave for the best route.
When to Go
The restaurant is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM and Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 9 PM. It is closed Sunday through Tuesday.
- Wednesday: wings, smoked, flash fried and dry rubbed.
- Thursday: prime rib from 4 PM to 8 PM.

What to Order
Most first-time visitors start with brisket, sold by the pound, on a meat plate with two sides or on the Brisket Sandwich. Pork ribs, pulled pork, sausage and turkey round out the smoked meats, and the sides and desserts are made in house. The full restaurant and bar menu has prices.
The Brewery
Detwiler Brewing, inside the restaurant, is the only wood-fired brewery in Pennsylvania. It pours traditional English-style ales from antique hand pumps, along with a wild-fermented cider. If you plan to have a beer, bring a designated driver for the ride home.
